I know I'm a little behind the curve on this; the kids have apparently been nuts about feather earrings for quite a long time now. And in a lot of cases, the ones I've seen haven't been anything to crow about (hmm, crow...wonder if I could get me some crow feathers to use in my earrings...). But then I figured out how to make them myself (with a little help from this site), and it's so much fun!
Those of you who know me know I tend to be a crafty type. Writing, scrapbooking, needlework...anything creative that I do with my hands. So I don't know why it didn't occur to me to try this sooner.
See, a lot of the crummy feather earrings you find in stores are just, well, crappy. Check out this online store if you need an illustration: Evans
Seriously? How boring can you get! And yet when I hit up the teeny bopper stores (like Hot Topic and Claires) that sell these things, that's all I see. Boring, plain and usually they don't even use very nice feathers!
So my solution has been to get my own feathers (via eBay, of course) and make my own earrings. I already have lots of beads and findings, so...like I said, it really should have been a no-brainer. Glad I'm doing it now, though. If you're the least bit crafty, you really should give it a try. It's a blast, and you wind up with some gorgeous wearable art! If you need any inspiration, do a search on a site like Etsy. I've found the gals over there have some great ideas to copy.
